The Brainless Dancer

interactive performance 2023-present

The Brainless Dancer has developed across three phases as an interactive participatory performance investigating the female body, the gaze, and power in shared space.

First created in 2023 as an outdoor performative installation, the work presented the artist’s body as a living sculpture: both material and performer, activated by audience-triggered sensors. Its later development expanded the interaction through valves, air pumps, and tubes that inflated and deformed the performer’s costume in real time, making visible how social pressure, attention, proximity, and control shape bodies and identities. The audience becomes co-actor/inter-actor within the work, no longer only observing but directly participating in the body’s transformation and eventual “freeing” of the performer. In its ongoing phase, the project incorporates a live sonic installation by Cosmo Schüppel, amplifying the mechanical system and making the audience’s impact felt visually, spatially, and sonically.

The work continues to evolve through experimentation with materials, technology, agency, and vulnerability.
